Robert A. Palmer, age 58, Treasurer/Collector for the Town of Natick, died peacefully surrounded by family at his Natick home on Sunday morning, June 24, 2012.
Born, raised, and educated in Freeport, Maine, he was a son of the late Arthur and Maxine (Hansen) Palmer. Bob was a 1972 graduate of Freeport High School and continued his education at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham as a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. For the next few years he held municipal government positions in Maine before moving to Newton in 1982.
Bob served as Assessor for the City of Newton for the next decade. During the course of his tenure there he earned a Master’s in Education from Cambridge College. He married Rose Cain in 1991 and settled in Natick two years later. From that time on he was employed with the Town of Natick where he held various positions in the area of finance. He currently held the office of Treasurer/Collector. A major Red Sox fan, Bob was also an active fisherman, happy whether sitting with his sons on Nonesuch Pond or deep sea fishing during their annual trips to the Outer Banks. He traveled extensively with his family, most recently visiting Israel and Petra. During his youth he enjoyed working on the engines of old cars.
He is survived by his wife, Rose M. Cain of Plymouth; two daughters, Regan Cushing and husband Frank of Topsham, ME, and Melanie Palmer of Westbrook, ME; two sons, Bobby Palmer and Max Palmer, both of Natick; a sister, Elizabeth Palmer, and a brother, John Palmer, both of Maine; and three grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Wednesday, June 27th 4 – 7p.m.
