Obituary

Mary (Stepenuck) Dempsey, formerly of Natick, passed away at her home in Mill Creek, Washington on Saturday, June 2nd. She was 93 years old. She will be very missed by her family, and friends.

Mary was born and raised in Peabody, along with her 4 brothers (Steve, Larry, Walter and Danny) and 1 sister (Wanda). She graduated from Beverly school of Nursing, and then worked her way through her degree at Boston University. She loved being a nurse, and did a variety of jobs from public health to private duty. She was always a teacher and continued to teach everyone in Washington at her home in assisted living.

She married Edward Dempsey in 1949, and raised her 3 children (Ed, Susan, and John) in Natick. She was fortunate to have a close and wonderful neighborhood of lifelong friends on Archer Drive. She was always the neighborhood nurse, ready to help or offer advice. She even would surprise everyone when she would go off figure skating on the lake. Mary and Ed lived in Natick until 2005, when they moved to Washington State to be closer to Susan.

Mary loved classical music, finding good bargains whether at garage sales or Filene’s basement, reading, discussing politics or the stock market, flowers, dancing, and wearing her jewelry. She loved keeping in touch with lifelong friends. She was most proud of her grandson Sean, and grandsons Tyler and Grant. While in Washington she really enjoyed the great granddaughters-(Kennedy, Kiley, Karrah and baby Kamryn), visiting Sue’s garden, and giving treats to the dogs.

Mary is survived by her daughter Susan (Gene), her daughter in law, Lynn, and grandson Sean, and grandsons Tyler (Stacey) and Grant, and close niece Joanne and nephew Steve, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 60 years, Edward; her sons Ed and John, and her brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Sunday June 24, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.

Private burial in Glenwood Cemetery, South Natick.
