John D. Mahoney of Jamaica Plain passed away on February 20, 2012. He was 78 years old. A self-described "fire buff," John was part of many fire department activities and organizations, including a member of the NYFD Museum. He loved cars and trains, especially the New Haven Railroad. John was an avid photographer who enjoyed Irish music. What he loved more than anything was spending time with his family, especially his loving granddaughter, Lauren.
John was the dear and devoted husband of Lillian F. (Regan). Loving father of Mary Carlson and her husband Kenneth of Norwood. Beloved “Grandpa” of Lauren Carlson. Dear brother of Robert Mahoney and his wife Grace of Cranston, RI and the late William and George Mahoney. Dear brother-in-law of Claire and Gordon Wolfram, William and Mary Regan, Rita Mawn and her late husband James, Mildred and Henry Wojnar, Eleanor Woods and her late husband John, John and Mary Regan, Verna Regan and her late husband Joseph, the late Esther Flynn and her husband John, the late Sister Mary Regan Licinius C.S.J. and the late Jeremiah and James Regan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
John's Funeral Mass was celebrated February 23, 2012 at St. Theresa of Avila Church.

John was laid to rest, with a rendition of "Danny Boy", in a hilltop grave at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.
