Obituary

METHUEN – Joseph R. Garigliano 86 of Methuen and formerly of Atkinson, NH died Sunday January 8, 2012 at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born and educated in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of Angelo and Frances (DeFrancesca) Garigliano. He attended Jersey City Grammar School, Snyder High School and graduated Dickerson High School, Class of 1940. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a mechanic, where he worked on B-29’s serving in Guam, received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged. Joe loved his country, was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion where he was past post commander and worked tirelessly for his fellow veterans to raise money and awareness for the World War II monument in Washington DC. After his service in the military, he made furniture with his father, and later worked for 37 years at Western Electric in North Andover, MA, retiring in 1984. After retiring he volunteered at M. I. Restorative Center in Lawrence, MA.

Joe’s family recalls his lifetime of friends at his home at Big island Pond, and at Methuen Village, his big heart and caring soul, a man who stood behind his family friends and country with love and pride.

He is survived by his sister Frances G. Bradley of Haverhill, MA. Nieces and nephews, Patricia MacDonald also of Haverhill, MA, Florence Axford of Methuen, MA, Barbara and her husband Raymond Dion of Londonderry, NH, Judy and her husband Leo McGrath of Methuen, MA, Susan Bradley of Derry, NH, John and his wife Linda Bradley of Candia, NH, Eileen and her husband Philip Lee of Methuen, MA, Sandy and Joe Gualtieri of Monroe, NJ, Jeannine and Ed McHugh of Spotwood, NJ, Barbara Hoffman of Union City, NJ, George and Cheryl Garigliano of Thoroughfair, NJ, Vincent and Donna Garigliano of Brick, NJ and Michael Garigliano also of Brick, NJ.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Thursday from 3;00p.m. – 7:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00a.m. in St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA.
