Katherine B. "Kay" (Pender) MacDonald, a longtime resident of Charlestown and former 16 year resident of the South End of Boston, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at her home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. She was 87 years old.
Kay was born in Middleboro, Massachusetts on April 16, 1924 to the late Stephen and Minnie (Hodgdon) Pender. She grew up in Northwood, New Hampshire and attended the public school system there. She graduated from Co-Brown Academy in Northwood, New Hampshire. Kay was a homemaker and a simple woman who cared for and loved her family till the very end of her life. She enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword puzzles and loved music and playing several instruments. Kay was also a devoted 29 year friend of "Bill W."
Kay is the beloved wife of the late George L. MacDonald. She is the devoted mother of Sheila Hollien and her husband Fred of Milton, George MacDonald and his wife Melissa of Marblehead, Judy MacDonald-Kelly of Charlestown, Stephen MacDonald and his wife Suzanne of Billerica, Doug MacDonald of Charlestown and Debbie Allen and her husband Mitch of Epping, New Hampshire. She is the loving Nana to 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kay's Funeral Service on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 10 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 5, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
