Sally Monahan, 91 of No. Truro, died on Friday October 14, 2011 at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehab Center in Brewster, following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of John J. Monahan. Born in Rochester, NY on July 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Georgia (Yaky) De Baun. Mrs. Monahan and her husband were married more than 70 years ago on June 28, 1941. Shortly after they were married, while her husband was serving in the Army, she served as the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post in Spring Valley, NY. For many years she was employed by the US Postal Service as a postal clerk retiring in 1980. Around 1950 the Monahan family started visiting No.Truro on vacation, and in 1958 they bought the home they vacationed in and continued to visit part time for several more years. After they both retired they moved from Valley Cottage, NY to No. Truro and have been full time residents for 30 years. Over the years she has remained an active volunteer in various community organizations.
She and her husband volunteered with “meals on wheels.” She was on the board of directors for the A.I.M. thrift shop, secretary for the Truro Historical Society and a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. She was also a a daily communicant, a long time faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Wellfleet, while also serving as an Eucharistic Minister.
Besides her husband John, she is survived by her four children, Kevin Monahan of No. Truro, Sean Monahan of Bear Creek, Montana, Margaret Cruz of Secaucus, NJ and Grace Ann Starkey of Monsey, NY and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Patricia Morris and the sister of the late Frederick Fouquet. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes Church 2282 State Highway Rt6 Wellfleet on Monday October 24, 2011 at 10:30am. A reception will take place immediately following the Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes parish hall.
