Obituary

Holden – Francis A. Grenier, 87, of Holden, died on Saturday, October 8th in Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness, while surrounded by his loving family.

His wife Doris R. (Vigneault) Grenier died in1999. Mr. Grenier is survived by his two daughters, Emilie F. Grenier and her partner Jill Roach of Worcester and Helen E. Culver and her husband Henry E. of Holden; a grandson Ian Culver of Holden and many nephews and nieces. Francis is predeceased by a brother Alvin Grenier and two sisters Eunice Fassett and Ruth Walsh.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Stuart and Amanda (Daviau) Grenier. While Mr. Grenier was a young child he experienced the death of his mother and was taken in by Emile and Elizabeth Charron who raised him as one of their own children.

Fran is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He worked as a driver for the E.L. Dauphinais Company and previously worked for Normand City Trucking.

Mr. Grenier was a member of the Teamsters Local #170 and the Auburn Knights of Columbus Council #4158. He led a very active life and was a participant in many local bowling leagues in the Worcester area for many years and also played in the Senior Softball League of Worcester for a number of years.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 12th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint George’s Church 38 Brattle Street Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are on Tuesday, October 11th from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veteran’s Shelter 69 Grove Street Worcester, MA 01605.
