Obituary

Barbara J. (Hiscock) Martin, age 78, of South Yarmouth and New Port Richey, FL passed away peacefully on the morning of October 5, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Sylvester H. “Vestie” Martin.
Born on February 4, 1933 in Everett, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Susie (Ellsworth) Hiscock. Barbara grew-up in Everett, MA, along with her four sisters. She still remained friends with many of her Everett classmates. She raised her family in Natick, MA where she was an active member in the community, including President of the Evening Division of the Natick Women’s Club and member of the St. Linus Church choir. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years before retiring in 1994. Her hobbies included traveling, painting, dancing, knitting, and sewing. She had an active social life enjoying the company of many friends in Florida and was a board member of her condominium social club. Barbara also enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family and friends. She served as a Docent with the Yarmouth Historical Society for many years. At 77 years of age she started playing golf with her friends in Florida and Cape Cod.
Barbara’s survivors include her three sons, Richard and his wife Sue of Milford, David and his wife Carol of Millis, Rob and his wife Jacki of Worcester; her daughter Carole McAuliffe and her husband Bill of Abington; grandchildren Andrew and Jeffrey Martin of Millis, Josh, Jake, Jared, and Jewel McAuliffe of Abington, Laci and Casey Martin of Worcester; step-grandchildren Christina Casali of Worcester, Andrea and Jonathan O’Dell of Milford; step-great-grandchild Natalie O’Dell; her sisters Myrtle Blanchard of Shutesbury, Joan Gillespie of Youngstown, NY, Marilyn Perez of Wakefield, and the late Susan Kissin of Australia; her beloved sisters-in-law Phyllis Rego, Anna Dwyer, Betty Martin, and Joan Martin; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was also survived by her special friend Gene Florek of Munster, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford St. Natick. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Natick. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 3-6 PM in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK.
