Kenneth W. Gullens, age 54, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Born in Boston, MA on May 28, 1964, he was a loving son of Patricia B. (Skrabut) Gullens of North Ridgeville, Ohio and the late Carl H. Gullens.
Ken spent his early childhood living in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. In 1972, his family moved to Mansfield, where he grew up and graduated in 1983 from Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School in Easton. While in high school he played football and ran track and remained an active alumnus and recently helped to organize his senior class reunion.
Kenneth proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was discharged with the rank of SP4. When younger he was very active in scouting, obtaining the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout. Following in his late father’s footsteps, he was also a member of the Lieutenant Norman Prince Drum & Bugle Corp.
Ken had most recently been employed as a cafeteria worker at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Brockton. He loved spending time with his family and will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his dear children: Henry L. Gullens and Tabitha J. Gullens. He was the devoted brother of retired United States Army Master Sergeant Kurt J. Gullens of Waco, Texas, Kimberly A. McLaughlin and her husband Roy of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Michael A. Gullens of Taunton and Theresa A. Bromley of North Ridgeville, Ohio. He was the longtime friend of Melissa “Missy” Gosselin of Attleboro. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, November 15th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman and Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home followed by U.S. Army military honors.
In lieu of flowers, Kenneth’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02188.
