Obituary

On July 2, 2026 the world lost a bright light. Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ada Joy Slazas, 83, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and cherished friend. Born in South Boston, Massachusetts on January 16, 1943 to her wonderful parents, Vincent and Glen Dora Montgomery. Joy later move to Holbrook, the town she would proudly call home. She truly lived up to her name, bringing a warmth and ease to everyone who knew her. She was a pillar of quiet strength, always showing us how to face life‘s challenges with courage and grace. She is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Martin F Slazas. Their marriage was characterized by deep friendship, mutual respect and countless adventures in their conversion van. She is also reunited in death with her sister and favorite dance partner, Gail Butler and her brother in law, Daniel R. Slazas. Joy’s memory will be forever cherished by her loving son, Martin V Slazas and his wife Teresa of Manchester, New Hampshire, her devoted daughter and best friend Robin Reen and her husband James of Braintree, Massachusetts, and her adoring grandchildren, Jennifer Slazas, Faith Slazas, Martin Slazas, Vincent Reen and Jocelyn Reen. They were truly the light of her life. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Robert Butler of East Bridgewater, her brother-in-law Adam Slazas and his wife Denise of Stockton Springs, Maine, and sister-in-law Marcia Slazas of Brockton, Massachusetts, and many loving nieces, nephews and lifelong friends, who will miss her dearly.

Joy considered parenthood her most meaningful achievement, her children and grandchildren remember her not for her grand gestures but for showing up at every game, every concert, every moment that mattered, and usually with some kind of snack or candy bar tucked away for them. She was their biggest champion, their first teacher, and the cornerstone of our family. She was a passionate fan of Elvis Presley, whose music often served as a soundtrack to her happiest moments. She never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good party but most of all she treasured simple time spent with family and friends.
