Oakdale - Cheryl Ann Platz, 74, of Oakdale entered eternal life Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Cheryl was born Aug. 11, 1951 in Westerly, R.I., the daughter of Clarence K. and Frances E. Holt. She grew up in Mystic and graduated from Fitch Senior High School in 1970. She met her husband, Edward, at Pfizer and was united in marriage to him July of 1982 in Mystic; she continued to work for the company as a chemical analyst for over 30 years until she retired.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and long term caregiver of her husband.
She loved to follow sports, was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball, tuned in to watch tennis events such as the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open and was a football fan of the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. She enjoyed cooking with her son, always trying and exchanging new recipes and participating in games online they could both play. Early in life she enjoyed going to antiques and art auctions with her father and then later on with her beloved husband. When she could no longer do so, she tuned into the Antiques Roadshow.
Her legacy that she leaves behind to her family is the “gift of her kindness."
She is survived by her beloved husband Edward D. Platz Jr.; and her devoted son Douglas E. Platz; and her sister Delilah L. Kieffer. She is predeceased by her parents; and brother Kenneth M. Holt.
Her family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, with the Funeral Service following at 1 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Cheryl from 2 to 4 p.m. at the VFW in Pawcatuck. A private burial service will be held July 13, at the family plot in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
