Obituary

LEDYARD: William Henry Fain, 83, of Ledyard CT passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026.
William was born on February 2, 1943 in New Haven, the son of the late Francis and Elinor Turner Fain. He grew up in Mystic, graduating from Stonington High School in 1961. From there he went on to graduate from American International College in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in English and History.

In 1966, he married his wife of nearly 60 years, Saralee Sebastian.

Upon graduating college, William worked in a library which fed his love of reading. Eventually he went on to work as a social worker for the State of Connecticut for many years.

William was an Eagle Scout, a member of Phi Sigman Kappa, and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 30 years.

When he retired he spent his days volunteering, delivering books to people, and teaching his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading and writing “odes” to family members.

In addition to his wife, Saralee, he is survived by his son William and his wife Beatriz and their two daughters Serafina and Francesca, his daughter Marie and her husband Bill Leffingwell and their three sons Anthony, Joseph and James, and his daughter Ellen Davis and her daughter Xiola. He is also survived by his sister Carol Nascyniec and her husband Richard of Georgia.
William’s family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, April 19, from 4 to 6pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. At 5pm the Mystic Knights of Columbus will read a letter of condolences to commemorate his dedication and support of the Council.. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 20 at 10:00am at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, River Road, Old Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
