North Stonington - It is with great sadness that we announce that Carl Lawrence Smith of North Stonington passed away at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on March 3, 2026, just 3 days after the death of his beloved wife of 66 years, Audrey Smith, who died Saturday, Feb. 28.
He was born Nov. 2, 1936, in South Side Nova Scotia to Jason and Madelyn Smith. He was enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force for three years. He married Audrey C. Davis June 27, 1959.
He was employed as a salesman at Montgomery Ward in New London, Modern Electric in Groton and Morrone Electric in Westerly, R.I. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Groton for 65-plus years.
He was survived by his children, Timothy D. Smith of Uncasville, Melanie S. Sexton of Westerly, R.I.; grandchildren, Jared R. (Talia) Sexton of Pensacola, Fla., Fr. Zachary C. Sexton, OP of Louisville, Ky., and Jessica L. Sexton (Alex Mallory) of Westerly, R.I. He also leaves behind his sister Janie (Lewie) Nickerson of Amherstview Ontario; and nieces and nephew. In addition to his wife, Audrey, he is predeceased by a son-in-law Kevin J. Sexton of Westerly, R.I.
Visitation for Carl and Audrey will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, with a Funeral Service for both immediately following at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) memo: Carl and Aud Memorial Fund. A celebration of life will be held at a future date at CUMC.
