
Dorothy Elaine Avery, 88 a longtime resident of Chester, NH died Sunday surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born July 20, 1937 in Coventry, Ct to the late John and Gladys (Whaples) Ward.
Dorothy was a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State College, and earned a Master’s degree in Education at Lowell University. In 1964 she began a 32 year career teaching middle school mathematics in Pelham, NH. After retirement she worked 7 additional years assisting students of Chester Academy.
Dorothy served her community as a trustee of the Chester Library as well as on the Board of Deacons at the Congregational/Baptist Church of Chester.
She was married to the love of her life, Richard Williams Avery in 1958 until his death in 2010.
She leaves behind two devoted children, Laurie A. Paolino and her husband Gerard of Stratham, NH and John W. Avery and his wife Karen of Chester. She also leaves two cherished granddaughters Jordan A. Caley and her husband Jhonnatan of Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and Jenna E. Snowman-Caley and her husband Dakota of Hamden, Maine, three adored great granddaughters Serenity, Ashton and Mila., sister-in-law Doreen Ward of Vernon, Ct, brother George Ward and his wife Sharon of Downingtow, Pa, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother, John Ward, Jr.
Memorial services and burial will be held in the spring. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester.
