2/12/2026

SPRINGFIELD - Leon A. Lemieux, 79, known to all as Lee, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026. He was born in Springfield on January 15, 1947, the beloved son of the late Leo J. and Henrietta (Zapatha) Lemieux. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School and had lived in Springfield his entire life. He furthered his education and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors. Professionally, Lee dedicated his career to public service, working with various Massachusetts state agencies. He committed himself to improving the lives of those who could not advocate for themselves, approaching his work with compassion, integrity, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Lee was a man of many passions: an avid golfer, an accomplished photographer, and someone who found deep satisfaction in woodworking. Never one to shy away from a new challenge, he eagerly embraced hobbies and interests throughout his life, always seeking something fresh and exciting to explore. Lee will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he shared and the quiet, steady example he set. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Sandra (Roncolato) Lemieux - the girl from across the street who captured his heart and became his lifelong partner. Lee leaves behind his proud sons, David and Christopher; their spouses, Jennifer and Lisette; and his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Madison, and Ella, who brought him endless joy; his sister in law, Rosemary Fortier and her husband, Ronald; his brother in law, Michael Roncolato and his wife, Christine; his niece, Brigette Fortier; and his many extended family members and friends. His family will receive friends on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
