Obituary

Mary Florence (Parvis) Armstrong passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2026. She was the wife for 30 years of the late Samuel J. Armstrong. Together they shared fun, laughter and devotion to each other and their family.
Mary was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on May 9, 1932, the daughter of the late Florence (Furtado) and Manuel A. Parvis, Sr. She grew up in Westerly and always remained deeply connected to her town and all her friends here throughout her life. She will be remembered for her overwhelming kindness and her devotion to those she loved.
Faith and family were truly the center of her life. She was a loving mother to her cherished daughters, Linda Garabedian (Robert Garraty) and Betty Jo (Brown) and Steven Crader. She was a devoted grandmother to her four granddaughters Jennifer Garabedian (Ryan Roberts), Kate Garabedian (Kristin Wood), Maegan Pullin (Jeffrey Thomas) and Rachel Pullin. Her six great-grandchildren – Noah, Avery, Jacob, Oliver, Oziah and Bella truly made her happy all the time.
Mary attended Westerly High School and worked for over 40 years at the Westerly Hospital as a nursery nurse and in later years as a Central Supply Technician. Once she retired she and Sam did a lot of traveling together often visiting her brother and his children in Maryland. Mary was a devoted catholic belonging to the Daughters of Isabella and the Rosary Altar Society for many years. She painted Icons of Christ, the Blessed Mother and other saints throughout her lifetime. She was a Girl Scout Leader and she bowled at Alley Katz in the Monday Morning Women’s League. She truly loved the Westerly Senior Center and you would find her there quite often having lunch, folding napkins, playing shuffle board or doing some carving. She was a big fan of her grandchildren’s sporting events and was always happy sitting in the bleachers cheering for whomever had a game that day.
Mary was predeceased by her sister Marguerite (Parvis) Vacca, her brother, Manuel A. Parvis, Jr., and her son-in-law, John R Garabedian.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, March 1st from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 2nd at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home to church and burial will be private.
May Mary rest in eternal peace and let her memory be a blessing to everyone.
