Obituary

Thorne, Lois A. (Walsh) of Canton formerly of Billerica and Jamaica Plain. December 22, 2025. Beloved wife of Richard L. Thorne. Daughter of the late Rita Carty Walsh and James J. Walsh of Jamaica Plain. Daughter in law of the late Regina Merrigan Thorne and Richard L. Thorne of Stoneham. Lois was the first born of eight, sister of Mary Jo Cutler of Jamaica Plain, Jane Curran of Franklin, Doreen Murphy of Halifax, James Walsh of Dedham, Thomas Walsh of Plymouth, Annemarie Walsh of Roslindale and the late Rita Smith. Beloved aunt and great aunt of many nieces, nephews and by brothers in law and sisters in law.

Lois received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Regis College and a Masters in Mathematics from Framingham State University. She was a Sister of St. Joseph for 14 years. Lois taught at many schools, including Marian High School, Framingham, Our Lady’s, Newton among others and Winchester High School Mathematics Department for 23 years.

She was meticulous in all things and tried to keep her seven siblings and many students in line. Lois was an avid genealogist, spending time researching many family histories to the point of traveling to cemeteries and churches domestically and in Ireland, uncovering many long lost facts of many relatives.

Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. Dedham on Saturday, January 10, from 9am-10am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury at 10:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer Association at alz.org.
