Obituary

Jay Chambers
January 13, 1937 – September 20, 2025

Jay Chambers, 88, passed away peacefully on September 20th, surrounded by his loving family in the home he built. Born on January 13, 1937, in Anderson, Indiana, Jay was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. At the age of 16, he met the love of his life, Wilma, and together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. He was the proud father of four children: Brian Chambers, Lisa Chambers (Calvin Shell), Misty Vanhooser (Don), and Sherri Tatman (Kurt).

He was a beloved grandfather to Tiffany and Jason Beigh, Drake Vanhooser, Eli Vanhooser, Kaleb Tatman, Paisley and Mason Brizendine, Alexa and Spencer Harvey, Macy Tatman, Ellis Munger, Buster Vanhooser, and Jackson Tatman. Jay was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Cali, Kaden, Jax, Remi, and Rylan Beigh; Rory Vanhooser; River and Townes Vanhooser; and Henry Brizendine. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and countless friends who loved him dearly.

Jay was preceded in death by his son, Brian Chambers; his parents, Earl and Margarette Chambers; his brothers, Steve and Joe Chambers; and his sister, Nancy Cox.

Jay was truly one of a kind — a tremendous man and the heart of his family. He was deeply respected and admired by everyone who knew him. A successful business owner and visionary, Jay dedicated his life to building, creating opportunities, and making life better for those around him.

A true entrepreneur, Jay started his first business, Chambers and Son Construction, before going on to found P & J Concrete. He later served as president of Miley Trailer Company in Texas and eventually returned to Anderson, where he established the family business, Kleenco Construction. Built from the ground up in his hometown, Kleenco became a lasting legacy of Jay’s vision, determination, and hard work. Today, his son-in-laws, Kurt Tatman and Don Vanhooser, proudly continue that legacy as they own and run the successful company. Through each of these ventures, Jay not only provided for his own family but also created opportunities for many others, reflecting his lifelong drive to build, provide, and make life better for those around him. Beyond his work, Jay had a lifelong love of horses. He was a proud member of the American Quarter Horse Association and spent many years running stables at Mounds State Park. A true horseman, he embodied their strength, loyalty, and determination. His passion, work ethic, and devotion to his family reflected the values that defined his life.

People like Jay are what make America great — hardworking, dedicated, and always putting others first. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Elevate Hospice and their incredible team for the compassionate care they provided, allowing Jay to remain at home surrounded by his loved ones during his final days.

Jay’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate to know him.
