CHICOPEE – Christine A. (LaPlante) Rhodes, 69, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, September 15, 2025. She Passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on December 22, 1955, a beloved daughter of the late Floyd J. and Evelyn F. (Golba) LaPlante. She was raised on Champagne Avenue in Chicopee and graduated in 1974 from Chicopee High School where she played field hockey and softball and was a member of the high school band. In her youth, she played softball, hockey, and basketball for the City Chicopee. She was a longtime resident of Chicopee where she spent 35 years of married life on Jennings Street, and moved to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 2022 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was employed for The Hartford and previously was employed for the City of Chicopee and the local banking industry. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be truly missed by all. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, John Rhodes. They were married on June 20, 1981 at the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 44 years of happiness together. She also leaves her two loving sons, Jason A. Rhodes of Uxbridge and Justin A. Rhodes and his wife, Ashley, of Chicopee; her three cherished grandchildren, Oliver, Tobias, and Joy; her four dear brothers, Floyd LaPlante and his wife, Linda, Roy LaPlante, Michael LaPlante and his wife, Annie, and Glenn LaPlante and his wife, Sue, all of Chicopee; her dear sister, Theresa Rodrigues of Granby, CT; her dear sister-in-law, Cheryl Wehr of Chicopee; she was the much loved “Auntie Chris” to her many dear nephews and nieces, and her cousins, friends, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Roland LaPlante. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.). The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
