John M. Sweeney, 71 Dateline: Mansfield, MA John M. Sweeney passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 22, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 21, 1954, in Boston, MA, he grew up in Milton and attended Sharon High School before joining the U.S. Army in 1971. Honorably serving his country in the Vietnam War as a combat veteran, he reached the rank of Sergeant in the Aero Rifle Platoon (ARSP) from the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment (Garry Owen). Following his service, John earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Stonehill College, which led to a long and very successful career in computer engineering and sales. An avid golfer with a single-digit handicap, John was happiest when walking down the fairway with his closest friends. He also loved spending time on the water, especially Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, where he created lasting memories with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John P. Sweeney and C. Marjorie Sweeney, and his beloved brother Terrence A. Sweeney, and devoted sister, Jacqualine C. D’Amico. A loving father, John is survived by his three daughters, Kristine, Nicole, and Maria; his five grandchildren: Joseph, Renee, Adriana, Noelle, and Adam; Nicole’s husband, Jason; and Maria’s longtime companion, Tim. A loyal and dedicated brother, he is also survived by his sister, Isabelle Mary McMorrow, and his sister-in-law, Judith Sweeney. From Boston to Santa Barbara, Uncle Johnny was cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Remembered by all for his boundless love, boisterous laugh, great sense of humor, and his unwavering ability to bring a level head and helpful hand to those in need. A Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited, will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 16th, at 11 AM, in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton, MA. The family will hold a private burial at Bourne National Cemetery on a future date.
