Benjamin Scott Engle
August 7, 2003-July 28, 2025
Benjamin Scott Engle, age 21, passed away on July 28th, surrounded by family at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, following an extended illness.
Ben was born on August 7th, 2003, in Anderson, IN, to Wendy and Jason Engle. He was a blessing to his family—an intelligent, kind, selfless, and gentle young man. He loved spending quality time with his family, friends, and his beloved bulldogs, Cookie and Tilly Bear, as well as his cherished pets Eli "Phil", Norma, and Luna.
Ben played on the soccer team and later served as team manager at Yorktown High School, graduating in 2021. He enjoyed movies, music, good food, watching basketball, and playing video games. He had started a film collection and kept a running list of movies and directors he wanted to explore. Ben was an avid reader, and enjoyed researching topics that interested him while keeping notes and lists of his findings.
He had recently been accepted into the nursing program at Ball State University and was set to begin his clinicals this fall. As a junior, Ben consistently made the Dean’s List. He had considered becoming a hospice nurse after graduation but was still deciding what area of nursing he wanted to specialize in. In addition to being a full-time student, he was a devoted caregiver to his Memaw and Pa, with whom he shared a lifelong bond.
Ben was preceded in death by his Memaw, Joyce Engle, who passed earlier this year; his Nana and Papaw, Debbie and Harry Barnes; his Uncle Andy Barnes; and his great-grandfather, “Old Pa” Bob Raper.
He is survived by his mom, Wendy Engle; his dad, Jason Engle (and stepmom Amanda Rockwell); and his Pa, Jack Engle. He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with special friends and neighbors, Wendy Werner and Kim Sappenfield.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, with visitation on Monday, August 4th 2025 from 4pm to 7pm, and the funeral Tuesday at 10:30am with Pastor Mike Whiteman officiating. Burial will follow in East Maplewood Cemetery. All who knew and loved him are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ben’s honor to the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Cincinnati—though flowers are welcome as well.
Ben is loved by so many and will be deeply missed but remembered forever.
