Mary DeSales Walsh

Mary DeSales Walsh of Olyphant, Pennsylvania, passed away on the
evening of Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Mary's Villa.
A daughter of the late
Attorney Patrick Walsh and Mrs. DeSales Dempsey Walsh, Mary De was a lifelong member of Saint Patrick's Parish in Olyphant. A faithful and dedicated Catholic, Mary De lived her faith to the fullest. She served the parish community as
a Eucharistic minister, lecturer, CCD teacher, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, a leader of Eucharistic Adoration, and decorated the altar each Thanksgiving. Mary De also served as a Eucharistic minister at Mercy Hospital and during the annual St.
Ann's Novena at St. Ann's Basilica. Mary De graduated from Saint Patrick's High School before earning her bachelor's degree from Marywood University. For thirty-five years she taught in the Scranton School District as an elementary and Title I math teacher at Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln Jackson, and Bancroft Schools. She was an longstanding contributor to the Math Council and Friendship House.
An avid reader and traveler, Mary De loved her church community, casino outings, playing cards, and attending shows in New York City. Above all, she cherished time with her family, whom she loved dearly. She was known by all for her generous spirit, loving heart, and deep faith.
She is survived by her sisters, Patricia Walsh and Margaret Walsh of Olyphant; her sister Joan DeMat-teo and brother-in-law Thomas of Roaring Brook Twp.; Nephews; Attorney Thomas DeMatteo of Washington D.C; Lieutenant Commander Christopher De-Matteo and his wife Jordan of Gales Ferry, CT; grandnephew Leo DeMatteo; and grand-niece Elizabeth De-Sales DeMatteo.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of St. Mary's Villa for the loving and compassionate care they provided.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, at Saint Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant.
Friends may call on Wednesday, July 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home, Inc., 129 Grant Street, Olyphant.
Interment will follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery.
