Obituary

Charles V. Gabbard
September 27,1947- July 3, 2025

After a courageous battle with cancer Charles V. Gabbard, 77, passed away Thursday July 3, 2025 at home surrounded by family.

Affectionately known as Chuck or Charles, he grew up in Central Indiana with his mother Emma Jean McCorkle and stepfather Ed McFadden. Chuck proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he bravely earned a Purple Heart Medal. He enjoyed his career of more than 30 years driving a semi over the road specializing in flatbed transport. After retirement he continued to work part time driving a dump truck.

He was a NASCAR fanatic, enjoying as many races as he could on TV and collecting memorabilia. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle as much as his health allowed. He clocked countless miles seeing many sights with his beloved wife Beverly as his co-pilot. Charlie owned several bikes, priding himself with his Honda Goldwings.

Charlie reconnected with the love of his life, Beverly, in the early 2000's and eloped while on vacation in 2005. Theirs was a love to be admired. Chuck and Bev enjoyed vacationing together as often as possible making lasting memories all across the United States through the years, fulfilling one of his dreams on their last vacation together by visiting Florida and Daytona International Speedway.

Of all his achievements over nearly 78 years, Chuck was most proud of his family. His love for his family was fierce and unwavering! His wife, children grandchildren and great grandchildren never questioned his love for them. He was a mentor, an advocate, a jokester, and any other role one could imagine. He always listened with an open heart and open mind.

Charlie is survived by his wife Beverly; his children, Charla Hobbs, Traci Yazzi, Annette ( Jeremy) Robinson, Jeremy (Jeremy) and Jason; He is survived by many well loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom each received their own fun and cute nickname from Papaw when they were born.

Charlie is preceded in death by his mother, Emma Jean "Jeannie" McCorkle Bradley; brother, Thomas Gabbard; sister, Donna Madrid; beloved fur baby, Bella.
