Joseph Lewis Broome, age 73, of Brockton, formerly of Dorchester and South Boston, passed away on Saturday, May 10th, 2025. He was born December 28, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Edward L. and Elizabeth M. (Devlin) Broome.
Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his children, Sean (Andrea), William (Sandra), Andrea (Matthew) Staehnke and the late Michelle. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Madison, and Alyssa, and great-grandchildren, Kayden, Marilyn, and Jonah.
A beloved brother, Joseph’s siblings Edward (late Peggy), Evelyn Debellis, Helen, Julie, Jean (Michael) Baker, Katherine (Peter) Fenton, Paul, the late John (Paula), the late Ann (Dwight) Farmer, and the late James (Dorothy), and many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Joe retired from the auto parts industry in 2017 after many years of hard work. A true lover of life, he enjoyed collecting coins, watching western movies, and writing poetry. His love for his family was immeasurable—he was especially devoted to his wife, Barbara, and found great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joe’s kindness, humor, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew him.
Joe will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to know him. Born in South Boston to a big working-class Irish family, his life was defined by family, overcoming challenges, working hard, and most especially being kind to others along the way. He was many things to many people. He started working at an early age and never stopped.
May he rest in peace.
