CHICOPEE – Ernestine (Smith) Scott, 76, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was called home on Saturday, May 10, 2025. She passed into eternal life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by the comfort of her loving family. Born in Hampton, South Carolina on January 24, 1949, she was a beloved daughter of Doris (Cohen) Smith of Springfield and the late Alexander Smith, Sr. Ernestine was raised in Pineland, SC, and moved to Springfield in June 1965. She later settled in Chicopee in 1989, where she lived the remainder of her life. She dedicated 38 years of service as a Food Service Aide at Baystate Medical Center before retiring in 2015. In addition to her father, Ernestine was predeceased by her brother, James Rudolph Smith, and his wife, Suzanne Louise (Antaya) Smith. Besides her loving mother, she leaves her two devoted sons, Stacy Scott and his wife Christene of Springfield, and Chauncey Scott, Sr. and his longtime partner Carrie of Easthampton. She also leaves five cherished grandchildren: Chauncey Scott Jr., Kyra and Kindra Scott, Casandra (and her son Jaiden), and Seferino Diaz; and her great-grandson, Anakin. She is survived by her sister, Annie Lee Smith of Granby, and her brother, Alexander Smith, Jr. of West Springfield. Ernestine also leaves her best friend, Almateen Rodwell, as well as brother, Leonard, and sisters, Sonja, Cheryl, and Sylvia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129.
