John G. Barrett

John G. Barrett, of Winchester, formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully on February 25 at the age of 86. John was predeceased by his parents, John G. Barrett and Margaret C. (Lee) Barrett, and by his sister, Mary R. Barrett. He is survived by and will be sorely missed by many loving cousins and friends. John was raised in Malden and attended the Immaculate Conception Grammar School. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1955. He enlisted and served with the United States Army in Germany from 1961 through 1963. Upon his return to the states, he embarked on a lengthy career with the United States Postal Service, rising to the level of Supervisor at the Somerville Post Office. John was an avid reader and enjoyed reading military history and historical fiction by authors like Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler. He was very interested in his family history and completed substantial research into his roots. In his later years, John enjoyed having morning coffee and pastries at his home with his cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge Street, Winchester, on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
