Obituary

Hicks, Louis Topalian of Belmont, age 39, May 7th 2023. Beloved husband of Flavia Hungaro. Devoted father of Heidi, Anton, and Aaron Hicks. Cherished son of Michael and Irene (Topalian) Hicks. Loving brother of Charlene Hicks, Mahala Leahey and her husband Hugo, and Angela Hicks.

From a young age Louis always was on a deep quest for knowledge and understanding. His intelligence, curiosity, and drive led him; in turn he led those around him. He debated with his teachers, was an ever-questioning student, and even performed sermons as an adolescent to the congregation at the Armenian Memorial Church. He was an incredible athlete with unbelievable strength and conditioning. He always pushed himself intensely, in his own direction. He was a man on his own path from a young age. He attended both the Belmont Hill School and Belmont High School. He had many mentors and many more followers and friends. He played football, trained and competed in Mixed Martial Arts, and was a State Sectional Champion wrestler. Louis went on to compete in professional Mixed Martial Arts, and won a Golden Gloves Boxing Championship. He worked as a trainer with ease. He devoutly studied many martial art disciplines, was a powerlifter, and conditioned himself to extreme levels of performance for many years. Louis did things people talked about and marveled at.

Louis eventually attended Boston University where he met his beautiful wife, Flavia. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies; he earned High Honors. Louis and Flavia married, moved to Rhode Island, and bought a house and land. Together Louis and Flavia built a small farm to help nurture and provide for their angelic daughter and two sons. Louis was always so proud of his family. He was so engaged and supportive of so many people everywhere, no matter the distance. Louis devoted himself to providing for his children and wife.

Louis always pushed himself to be the best at everything he did. Louis was intense in every way; everything he did was to a maximum effect. He had style and charisma. He had a million-dollar smile. He had a Giant Schnauzer, Saint, who he loved. He loved to read, make music, and play the guitar. He had a wonderful singing voice. He fluently spoke Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Creole. He could talk and connect with anyone. He did things his way, with a confidence that was contagious. He had an immense presence. He was strong as an ox and stubborn as a mule. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and friend.
