Obituary

Philip J. Begley, Jr., age 89, of Brockton, died Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Charlwell House in Norwood. Philip was the loving husband for 54 years of the late Derya F. (Karakas) Begley. Born, raised and educated in Boston, he was the son of the late Philip J. Begley, Sr. and Helen T. (Foley) Begley.

Philip earned his associates degree from Massasoit Community College. He was a proud Air Force Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Philip served in Germany and North Africa, as well as three tours in Turkey and Vietnam. After his 22 years in the Air Force, Philip worked in the security department of Shawmut Bank and retired in 1993 after 20 years there. He was a longtime member of the American Legion.

Philip was devoted to his wife and family. He was young at heart and loved to tell stories and talk with everyone. Time spent salt water fishing with his friends at Captain John and Sons in Plymouth was special to him.

Philip is survived by his children Rose Solari of Carver; Philip J. Begley, III and his fiancée Jill Braasch of Taunton; Kimberly Katz and her fiancé JT of Spring Hill, FL; and Sean J. Begley and his wife Jackie of Cumberland, RI. He was the grandfather of Andrew, Jessica, Stephanie, Brandon, Julia, Faith, Sean Jr., Matt, Rocky and the late Eddy Hill and great grandfather of Johnny Solari. He was the brother of the late Thomas J. Begley and Helen T. Cantwell and father in law of the late Edmund Solari.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, on Sunday, May 14 from 12:00-2:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 10:30am, followed by burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
