Obituary

John B. (Wheatie) McGuire, 67, of Harwich (formerly of Dedham) passed unexpectedly on April 20, 2023. Loving husband of Susan (Cameron) McGuire. Cherished son of the late Lofts J. (Mickey) and Jean McGuire of Dedham. Beloved dad of Matthew McGuire of Norfolk, Jessica McGuire of Weymouth, Owen McGuire of Dorchester and stepchildren Jeanette Kniolek of Taunton and Peter Cameron of Norwood. Brother of Jeffrey McGuire and his wife Barbara of Harwich, Jay McGuire and his wife Sandra of Norfolk and the late James L. McGuire, MD and his wife Linda of Westborough. John also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and his grandchildren, William and Sloane McGuire.

John Bruce McGuire was a devoted husband to Susan J. McGuire for almost twenty years. He was well respected in the community and beloved by all who knew him. John and his wife Susan made an amazing team together. Susan would handle the office work for John’s company and John would help Susan with anything she needed. They were always together; in twenty years of marriage, they never even spent a night apart from each other. He most enjoyed spending time at home with Susan talking about their day, having dinner together and watching their favorite tv shows. John was an avid Boston sports fan and always supported his alma mater, Boston College. Every Fall, John and Susan would travel to Ogunquit, Maine to enjoy the festivities. John graduated from Dedham High School, Class of 1973, and was on the committee for his upcoming 50th high school reunion, which he was so excited to help organize and attend. After attending Kent School, John was granted a full hockey scholarship to Boston College, where he played from 1974-1978. John cherished his two cats, Pie and Jack, and spent a lot of time sitting in his recliner with Pie Pie in his lap and Susan to the left of him. John, Susan, Pie Pie and Jack would spend Summer nights sitting on their deck watching the tide go in and out. John's favorite chore was to feed his kitties. He was extremely organized and meticulous in how he took care of things; everything had its particular spot and he could not start his day without making the bed. John loved to attend family gatherings and was a big conversationalist. He was very social and knowledgeable about many different topics. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers, Jeff and Jay, and spoke often about his late older brother, Jimmy. He was extremely proud of his family and would often talk about how much he loved the entire McGuire clan, especially his two sons who both attended Bentley University and his daughter who runs a successful company with her partner, Zachary. John was an amazing step-father as well, treating Jeanette and Peter like his own children. Running John B. McGuire Roofing and Siding gave him amazing fulfillment and purpose. Working with his hands and being outside was what John appreciated most in life. For the last few years, he worked with and mentored a young man named Shawn. He loved driving his big red truck from job to job and remained busy his entire life. John will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
