Jean D. (Gardner) Gillis, 92, of Limestone, ME passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Cary Medical Center. She was the wife of the late John W. Gillis.
Mrs. Gillis was born in San Francisco, CA on May 13, 1930 daughter of the late B. Clifford Gardner and the late Lola J. (Buker) Gardner-Kempner. She resided in Westport for over 50 years prior to relocating to Maine. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and lifelong friend to many. She dedicated her life to her family and was a woman of strong faith. Jean enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and evenings watching The Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Jean also enjoyed listening to music; Country being one of her favorites. Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends, who knew her to be a sweet, compassionate, nurturing person with beautiful blue eyes and a warm smile. She was also known to have a quirky sense of humor that would make you laugh when you least expected it.
She was a loving mother to her daughter Sharon Blewett and her husband John of Frostproof, Florida; her 3 sons: Walter (Chip) McGuinness and his wife Janet of Limestone, Maine; Clifford McGuinness and his late wife Diane of Worcester, Ma, and Steven T. Gillis and his wife Holly of Westport. Jean was sister to the late Patrick Gardner, the late Gayl DeLaughter, and Jill Hoover and husband Banty of Colorado. She adored her 9 grandchildren: Heather Biastre, Jason McGuinness, Amanda Blewett, Steven McGuinness, the late Jeremy McGuinness, Kristina McGuinness, Daniel McGuinness, Samantha Laczy, and Tyler Gillis along with her 10 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, May, 13, 2023 at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport at 11:30 am.
