Obituary

COCO, Salvatore John, in loving memory of an extraordinary man, June 11, 1933 - December 29, 2022 of Dedham. Beloved Husband, Great Grandfather, Grandfather, Father, Son, Brother and Friend. Salvatore was born in East Boston to the late Mariano & Carmela Coco. He married his adoring bride, Angelina Coco and was devoted for 70 years to their remarkable bond. He was the loving father to five children and their spouses: daughter Angela Coco, daughter Carmela Scena & husband Robert, son Sal Coco & wife Christie, son John Coco & wife Wendy and daughter Diane Coco & husband Rufino. He was also the loving grandfather to nine grandchildren Michael & Carly Scena, Shawna Campbell & David Marks, Justin & Jennifer Coco, John Coco Jr., and Joseph & Nicholas CocoGenitti. He is survived by several great-grandchildren as well.

Salvatore served two years active duty in the Korean War for the Army of the United States. Sonny, as his friends called him, was an officer as well as a chef in Germany. He received three medals: Occupation Medal, Germany OM(G). Good Conduct Medal GCM, National Defense Service Medal NDSM. He was a machinist at the Watertown Arsenal and helped to make some of the first satellites. He worked at the Quincy Naval Shipyard repairing Navy ships and instructing aspiring machinists. He worked for the government for over 30 years in the Social Security Office assisting many people with their finances. He loved to build and fix things and taught his children how to be handy. Sal worked very hard to give his children a beautiful home in the suburbs. As his family grew, he built three homes adjacent to each other in Dedham. His last home he considered his castle. He loved to take his bride to dinner and ballroom dancing on Saturday nights as well as to the beaches of Cape Cod and Florida. Sal had a passion for cars, especially his Cadillacs and Corvettes as well as his vegetable garden. Salvatore took pride in all of his life-long accomplishments and left a beautiful legacy for his big Sicilian family.
