Obituary

Priscilla M. (Canessa) Manzo, age 93, of Norwell, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully on December 5, 2022 at South Shore Hospital. Born, raised, and educated in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Cesare and Dorothy (Freeman) Canessa, and former wife of the late John J. Manzo.

Priscilla worked at Foot Joy for 60 years in the stitching department, for which they were extremely grateful. She appreciated all they did to commemorate her for the monumental accomplishment of her many years of service. She also worked a second job for 20 years at the Service Desk at Woolworth’s, at Westgate Mall. While living in Brockton, she was a longtime communicant of St. Edith Stein Church. She was also a member of the St. Anthony Society and was a volunteer for the Holy Cross Fathers at Stonehill.

Family meant everything to Priscilla. Her daughter, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren gave Priscilla the greatest joy in her life. They all will remember her by the endless love and selflessness that she displayed each and every day.

Priscilla was the mother of Nicoletta Brown of Brockton, grandmother of Anthony and Philip Martorana, and Judith Darmetko, great-grandmother of Gabriella, Matteo, and Mia Darmetko. She was the sister of C. Robert Canessa and his wife Rosemarie of New Bedford, and the late Theresa Whittaker, Antoinette Swederskas, James Canessa, and Roland Canessa. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Frances Canessa of Avon, and many nieces and nephews.

Priscilla was a very charitable woman, consistently giving to support children in need. While flowers are welcome, other memorial contributions may be made by donating to one of Priscilla’s favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or St. Labre Indian School, 115W 1st St., Ashland, MT. 59004 or St. Joseph’s Indian School, P.O. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD. 57325.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 14th from 4-7 PM at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, Brockton. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9 AM for a Funeral Mass at St. Edith Stein Church at 10:30 AM with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
