Obituary

Elaine S. Cox (Donovan), age 80, of West Bridgewater, formerly East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Bridgewater Nursing Home surrounded by her family.

Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late George and E. Doris (Sheehan) Donovan. Elaine was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1960. She worked for Taunton Gas Company and the corporate offices of D’Angelo sandwich shop. Elaine went on to work as a bookkeeper at Sachem Skilled Nursing home for many years. She later worked part-time at the Whitman Council on Aging.

Elaine was a member of Ireland’s Own and South Shore Irish American Society and was a faithful communicant of Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Elaine was fond of Irish music, country music, solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, playing cards, and spending summers at her seasonal camp site at Peters Pond RV Resort in Sandwich. Fondly referred to as “Lois” by her friends and “Granny” by her family, Elaine enjoyed gathering with her family and friends for Bocci and other fun times at the Bertocci Club, Cape Cod Café and Lombardi’s Pondside Café. She was always on the prowl for a fun time. Spending time with her family and friends was truly important to her. She loved the New England Patriots, reading, and was referred to as the Ambassador of Coors Lite by her family. Elaine will be remembered as being sassy, kind, compassionate, fun loving, and often having “no filter”; she was a “spit-fire.”

Elaine is survived by her loving children, Denise M. Diauto and her husband Kevin of East Bridgewater, Maureen E. Grenno and her husband Timothy of Whitman, and Jodi L. Cox of North Dighton; six grandchildren: Ryan Bourget and his wife Samantha, Zachary Bourget and his wife Kelsey, Elizabeth Bourget, Dominic Diauto and his fiancé, Caroline Gordon, Braden Diauto and Tim Grenno; and two great grandchildren Brookes Bourget and Kayce Bourget. She was the also sister of George Donovan of Raynham, Kevin Donovan of Brockton, Gregory Donovan of West Bridgewater, Christopher Donovan of Raynham, and the late John “Jay” Donovan, William Donovan, Michael Donovan, Denise Crocker, James Donovan, Bryan “Barney” Donovan, Catherine Pelton, Kerry Donovan, and Rosemary Rogan. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Elaine’s family on Friday, December 9, 2022, from 8:15-9:15 am in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Holy Ghost Church, 518 Washington Street, Whitman. Interment will be private.
