Obituary

DAVIS, Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Coughlan) Longtime resident of Dedham, MA, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2022, at the age of 87. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin F. Davis, Jr. A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor and friend, she is survived by her daughters Maureen T. Olivier and husband Marc of N. Attleboro, MA, and Eileen F. Pacheco and husband Gil of Plymouth, MA, and her son Edwin F. Davis III and his companion Helen. Betty was the beloved sister of the late Frances (Frae) McDougall. She was cherished as a loving Grammie to Mathieu and Catherine Olivier, and is remembered as a beloved sister-in-law, cousin and aunt to many throughout her family.

Born in Boston on October 11, 1935, Betty was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Helen E. (Barry) Coughlan. She was raised in Newton and graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians High School. In 1961, she married Ed and moved to Dedham where they raised their family. When her children were school age, Betty returned to bookkeeping and secretarial work and was active in her community as a girl scout troop leader, town meeting member, volunteer fundraiser for the Friends of the Endicott, and an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities. She cherished her neighbors on her beloved Monroe Street, where she lived for 53 years.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Sunday, December 4 from 2:00-4:00pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, December 5 at 9:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 420 High St., Dedham at 10:00am. Interment will be at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree, MA 02184.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Betty to Lifeworks, a nonprofit organization that provides work and life programs and services to individuals with developmental disabilities, at 789 Clapboardtree St., Westwood, MA 02090 or online at lifeworksarc.org
