Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Rita (Sarro) Hindman, age 83, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and care of her adoring family on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late James R. Hindman, Sr., to whom she was happily wed for forty-three years at the time of his death on January 18, 2007.

Born in Attleboro, MA on December 7, 1938, she was a loving daughter of the late Ralph and Rose (Narciso) Sarro.

Rita grew up in town as part of a well-known and close-knit family. She was a 1956 graduate of Mansfield High School and continued her education, graduating from Boston College in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Hindman taught Kindergarten in the Mansfield Public School System for thirty years. Following retirement, Rita remained a familiar face by volunteering her time at the school and getting together often with her former fellow educators.

A woman of deep faith, Rita was a lifelong communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where she served the youth as a former CCD Teacher. She loved spoiling her family, especially her grandchildren. Rita’s family were truly the essence and focal point of her life and they will always remember the summer months and lifelong memories Rita created in beautiful North Falmouth.

She is survived by her devoted children: James R. Hindman, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Centerville, Robert R. Hindman and his wife Jules of Mansfield and Debra J. Anderson and her husband John of Mansfield. She was the treasured grandmother of Zachary, Jessica and her wife Anna, Melanie, Nicole, Maggie, Jack “Bean”, Jason and Samantha. She was the much-loved sister of Anthony Sarro and his wife Margaret of Mansfield, Ralph Sarro and his wife Judy of North Falmouth and John Sarro and his wife Jane of North Falmouth. She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 27th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 28th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
