Georgette "Jo" March
9/22/2022

Georgette “Jo” Celina March, age 97, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2022 at The Carriage House in Wayland, MA.
She was born in North Dartmouth, MA to the late Yvonne and Ulric Lafond and was one of 9 children. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 64 years, Peyton C. March. She is survived by five children. Sheryl (Randy) French of Sunset Beach, NC; Blair of Providence, RI, Allison of Wayland, MA. Deidre (Douglas) Sacra of Wayland, MA and Darrah O’Connor (Sarah Henken) of Medfield, MA. She had 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Aurore Chace of South Dartmouth and Esther Davenport of Chelmsford and many nieces and nephews.
Mom lived in Medfield for over 60 years and was an amazing homemaker. She enjoyed her flower gardens and was a master gardener. (folks would stop and ask if they could take pictures of the yard on Bridge Street), baking (we never had store bought cookies or cakes in the house), flower arranging and was a talented artist working with many different mediums including oil painting. We are lucky to have many of her beautiful paintings proudly displayed in our homes. She continued to sketch until the end of her life and we are privileged to have this record from her.
She and Dad were regular contributors at Medfield Day for many years selling her fresh and dried flower arrangements, and his local honey, honey comb and beeswax candles. She was a tremendous producer of pies and breads and, of course, never used a written recipe or measuring utensils. It was a handful of this and pinch of that. For many years, she made hundreds of pies and fruit cakes for the Unitarian Church Fair Days. She produced so may pies, they were literally stored in every church members' freezers all over town. In a time when many turned to convenience foods, Mom would can and freeze most all the vegetables from our garden. We would enjoy the “fruits” of her labor from the summer heat for many winter months. In younger years, she was a wonderful seamstress – family photos show all of us girls decked out in our holiday finest dresses that she made for us. Aside from gardening, art and baking, Mom LOVED cats – we were never without a (usually several) cat in our house. At one point, we had 14 cats! All were fed and cared for with love. We envision Mom is now reunited all her feline friends from the past; and she is now happily covered in cats on her lap and beside her – she’s probably petting them, checking for ticks and fleas and just enjoying their company.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to The Carriage House and Good Shepherd Community Care for their care and kindness given to both Mom and the family at this difficult time.
Services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Medfield Animal Shelter, 101 Old Bridge Street, Medfield, MA 02052.
