Obituary

Richard Anthony Cardona passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 in Ventura, CA at the age of 89.

Dick was born in Ventura, California on May 22, 1933 to Anselmo G. Cardona and Viola Rios Cardona who preceded him in death.

He graduated from Ventura High School in 1952 and continued to Ventura College, where he was a cheerleader, before entering the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. After serving 4 years in the US Navy, he returned to Ventura where he worked for various companies including Raytheon and Vetco. Then, he started his own business, Cardona Liquor, and worked 15 years before retiring.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Trade Club as an ambassador, Chamber of Commerce, and other clubs. Dick loved doing activities with his son Todd, riding dirt bikes, participating in horse show competitions, and all the activities of raising a son.

Dick's hobby was going to jazzy jam sessions and swing dancing. Starting as junior high school noon dance chairman, he attended jazz concerts and danced the rest of his life.

Dick is survived by his son, Richard Todd Cardona; granddaughter, Brooklyn Jade Cardona; Todd's mother, Glenda Hill Cardona; nieces: Michelle Septer Cowen, Tommi Septer Berry, and Shawn Septer Barcelona; nephew, Kevin Septer; and cousins: Michael Velasquez, Jan Quejada, Mark Quejada, Allison Cerda, Alice Barjas, Jerry Rios, Greg Rios, Eddie Rios, Jr., and Gilbert Ramos.

A special thank you to Michelle Septer Cowen and Michael Velasquez who enjoyed many activities with Dick in his later life. And, a special thank you to the staff of the Ventura Townehouse for the kindness and caring they gave to Dick.

A Most Holy Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 5:30 pm at the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 East Main Street, Ventura. A Graveside Funeral Service will be on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 11:00 am at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, with Rev. Fr. Tom Elewaut officiating. Immediately following the Funeral Service at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, a Memorial Luncheon will be held at the Ventura Yacht Club, 1755 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura Harbor.
