Obituary


Shirley J. (Staples) Bamford passed away on August 29,2022 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Horace W. Bamford and their infant daughter, Sandra Ellen.

Shirley primarily made her home in Brockton, except for a few years when she and Horace lived in Keyport, New Jersey and Rockland, MA. She was the daughter of the late Doris Mae (Eagan) and Winslow Staples and is survived by her brother, Wayne Staples and his wife Cheryl of Beaumont, CA.

Shirley worked for the tax collector’s office and was a bank teller; however, her greatest joy was raising her children and caring for her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Christ Congregational Church, UCC in Brockton where she was proud to have been a nursery schoolteacher, a Deaconess, and a member of the Music Committee and the EnAmi Club. She also enjoyed singing in the choir and was a member of the hand bell group and enjoyed playing many concerts at the church and for local groups. Up until her illness, Shirley participated in weekly Bible Study. Her church family provided her with many life-long and lasting friendships.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Laurie J. McCoy and her husband Rev. William of Plymouth, MA, Janice E. Howard and her husband Matthew of Hanson, MA, and David W. Bamford and his wife Laura of Norton, MA. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Jennifer Bibby, Michelle DiPietro and her husband Johnathan, Kimberly Barrett and her husband Andrew, Andrew Howard and his partner Stephanie Richards, Kathryn Howard, Derek Bamford, and John Bamford. Shirley was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Aurora and Brynlee Barrett and Sophia DiPietro. Shirley also leaves her cousin Janet O’Reilly and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, Brockton on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 4-7PM. The funeral will take place at Christ Congregational Church, UCC in Brockton at 1350 W. Pleasant Street, Brockton at 10AM on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
