Panagiotis "Peter" Tsairidis

SPRINGFIELD – Panagiotis “Peter” Tsairidis, 79, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Harbin Manchuria, China on June 29, 1942, a beloved son of the late Haralambos Tsairidis and Anastasia (Triandafillidis) Tsairidis. His family moved to Greece where he was educated and received his Electrical Engineering Degree. He immigrated to Springfield on November 2, 1962 where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was employed for many years as a machinist at the former Package Machinery in East Longmeadow where he also served as a Union Steward. He later worked for the City of Springfield as a Post Employment Specialist at the Future Works Career Center and the Massachusetts Career Development Institute and was last employed at the Hampden County Employment and Training Center where he helped immigrants and people that lost their jobs with financial assistance, education and jobs. During his leisure time, Peter enjoyed playing soccer with the Mount Carmel Italian Society Soccer Club in Springfield and the Portuguese-Lusitano Soccer Club in Ludlow. He also enjoyed searching historical sites of the world on his computer. He was a longtime communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield where he served as Treasurer and a member of the Parish Council. For many years, he was responsible for running their bi-weekly Bingo in order to raise funds for the Cathedral. In addition, he was a member of the Over 60 Club at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He leaves his two loving sisters, Helen Papandricopoulos and her husband, Nickolas, of Agawam and Liza “Elizabeth” Pappas and her husband, John, of Springfield; his cherished nephew, Ted Pappas and his wife, Tara; his cherished grand nieces, Callia and Christiana Pappas; his cherished grand nephew, John W. Pappas, and his daughter, Anna Tsairidis. In addition, he leaves many dear cousins and relatives in the United States, Australia, Brazil and Greece. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving maternal grandmother, Anna Triandafillidis; and his loving paternal grandmother, Kalliope Tsairidis. Peter, from the far East to West, no matter how many continents we reside and no matter how many storms life presents us with, peace comes at the end of our journey. Springfield has been your life’s final stop on this earth and now you have entered your Eternal Journey. As you now cross over with the Rites of the Orthodox Church, may you Rest in Peace! Peter will Lie in Repose on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. His burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Trust Fund, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
