Walter R. Clune

EAST LONGMEADOW - Walter R. Clune, 95, of East Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on May 29, 1927, a beloved son of the late Walter A. and Delia V. (Moriarty) Clune. He was raised in Springfield, graduated from the former Springfield Technical High School in 1944 and later moved to Longmeadow in 1967. He moved to East Longmeadow in 2004 before returning to Springfield in 2014. He last resided at Blue Bird Estates in East Longmeadow. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal. He was employed as a Master Electrician and later worked as the first Plant Engineer at the new Hampden County Hall of Justice in Springfield. He also worked as Electrical Inspector for 47 years for the Town of Longmeadow. He was a communicant of Saint Michael Church in East Longmeadow. He also was a member and Past King Lion of the Lion’s Club in East Longmeadow, a member for over 70 years of the IBEW Local 7, a 20+ year member of the Country Club of Wilbraham, and a 35-year member and former Treasurer on the Board of Directors at Emerson Manor in Longmeadow. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Laurette (Guynup) Clune who was Called Home on February 11, 1995; and his beloved second wife, Pauline M. (Clapper) Georgantas Clune who was Called Home on February 26, 2009. He leaves his loving son, Walter R. Clune of Holyoke; his five loving step children, Jim, Nick, Paul, Mary and Kathy; his nephews, Jim, Henry and Jack and his nieces, Johna, Linda, Susan, Carol, Pat, Christine, Robin, Christine and their families. He was very appreciative of the dear friends he made at Bluebird Estates. In addition to his parents and his wives, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Robert B. Clune; and his two dear sisters, Frances C. McGarry and her husband, Robert, and Christine A. Clune. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael Church, 110 Maple Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. His Mass will conclude with United States Navy Military Honors. His burial will be private. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
