Sophie A. (Romanovicz) McKissick

CHICOPEE – Sophie A. (Romanovicz) McKissick, 99, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, July 16, 2022. She passed into Eternal Life at Memory Support of Heritage Hall in Agawam surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Chicopee on March 7, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Michael and Barbara (Siemieniak) Romanovicz. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and had lived in Chicopee her entire life. She furthered her education and attended Bay Path Institute in Springfield. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Valentine Lumber in Springfield. She also was a loving homemaker to her beloved family and enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Chicopee. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and soul mate, Alexander N. McKissick who was Called Home on June 13, 2010. They were married on October 22, 1955 at Faith United Methodist Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Barbara A. Deslauriers of South Hadley and Alexander M. “Sandy” McKissick and his wife, Jean, of Madison, CT; her nine cherished grandchildren, Carolyn Deslauriers of Safety Harbor, FL, David Deslauriers and his wife, Sue, and Katherine “Katie” Deslauriers, all of Chicopee, Michelle Deslauriers of Lake Tahoe, CA, Bethany Deslauriers of South Hadley, Alexander McKissick and his wife, Allegra, of Norwalk, CT, Eric McKissick of Lombok Island, Indonesia, Olivia McKissick of Providence, RI and Colin McKissick of Madison, CT; her two cherished great grandchildren, Sophie and Lennon Valentine; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the McKissick and Romanovicz families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son in law, David A. “Big Dave” Deslauriers who was Called Home on October 10, 2021; her dear brother, Michael Romanovicz; and her two dear sisters, Mary Bourgeois and Anna Rubner. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, funeral home will open at 9 a.m.) The funeral home parking lot is located in the rear. Her Burial will follow the Celebration of Life Service at West Street Cemetery, 90 West Street, Granby, MA 01033.
