Obituary

Vincent Guy Maffucci – Wellesley

February 5, 1940 – June 6, 2022

Everyone knew him by Vin or Vinny. He never met a stranger and once he met you, he would shovel your driveway, fix your sink, install your air conditioner, or give you a ride. He always helped those around him. He always put others before himself. He loved to cook for others as much as he loved to eat. Papa (as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren) also created the now whimsical ‘one eyed green monster’ that will live on with his great-grandchild(ren). Vinny was frequently full of idioms that would make the most hardened sailor blush. He told it like it was. He didn’t mince words, yet his bluntness often brought laughter or a smile to the person on the receiving end.

Vinny was incredibly sentimental and held onto memories as resolutely as he did his old photos or small momentos. He was a master landscaper and enjoyed teaching others his gift for maintaining a meticulous green carpet of grass. When something needed repair, he worked more magic than MacGyver. Yet he could create something beautiful from a simple fallen tree branch. Vin was a painter, worked construction and was co-owner of Country Squire Real Estate in Wellesley for many years. He was a maverick who lived up to Frank Sinatra’s classic, “My Way”. Some might say he had a stubborn streak, but truth was he never wanted to be a burden to anyone. Ever. Even in his last days. He defiantly and incredibly lived years after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. Even his doctors were amazed by his unrelenting will to live.

Vin was a son, a father, a brother, a Papa, great-Papa and Marine.

A longtime resident of Wellesley, formerly of Watertown, he died June 6, 2022. Predeceased by his parents, Guy and Helen (Russo) Maffucci and his sister, Virginia Kidd. Devoted father to Lori Ingemi and her husband Peter of Prospect, KY, Karen DiPietro and her husband Richard of West Hartford, CT and David Maffucci of Natick, MA. Loving Papa of Peter Ingemi Jr and his wife Alexis, Nicholas Ingemi, Joseph Ingemi and great-granddaughter, Mia Rose Ingemi. Also survived by his sisters, Francis Joyce and Elaine Igoe, and many nieces and nephews. Vin also leaves behind his best friend, Silvia Manning, her beloved dogs Rico and Zsa Zsa, daughter Gina Manning, and an exceptionally long list of very cherished neighbors and friends.

Vin’s family would like to especially thank a small circle of dear friends in Wellesley who went above and beyond to bring him meals and other items during the last year. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We would also like to extend tremendous gratitude to the amazing doctors and caregivers who supported and cared for him after his diagnosis. You may never meet another patient with such an incredible will to live.
