Eugene J. "Gene" Bernier, Sr.

CHICOPEE – Eugene J. “Gene” Bernier, Sr., 89, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Vantage at South Hadley. He was born in Westfield on May 29, 1933, a beloved son of the late Leo J. and Rose D. (Guay) Bernier. He was raised and educated in Westfield and had moved to Chicopee in 1966. He served his county in the United States Army National Guard. He was the Owner and Operator of Henry’s Restaurant in Westfield in the 1970’s and was later employed as a School Bus Driver and Instructor with the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Anita J. (Bissonnette) Gosciminski Bernier who was Called Home on March 7, 2015. He leaves his three loving step sons, Chet Gosciminski and his partner, Danielle Plouffe, of Northampton, Anthony Gosciminski of Chicopee and Michael Gosciminski and his wife, Karen, of Granby; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Reverend Lawrence J. Bernier who was Called Home on February 27, 2004; and his dear sister, Lorraine Couture. His Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours. His arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen and Pantry, 170 Pendexter Avenue, Chicopee, MA 01013.
