Allan E. “Al” Sweeney, longtime resident of Somerville, passed away on Saturday, May 28th. He was 79. Born and raised in Henniker, NH, he was the cherished son of the late Alwin and Yvonne (Murray) Sweeney.

A natural people person, Allen loved everyone, and they loved him. His sense of humor, generosity, caring personality and ability to help anyone made him one of a kind. He was always just a phone call away. If you needed him, no matter what time or where you were, he was on his way. Al enjoyed grilling out in the backyard with his family, playing golf and bowling.

Al was the loving husband of Jean (Allen) Sweeney. He was the devoted father of Michael Sweeney and his wife Kelly, and Danny Tempesta and his wife Tara. He was the loving Papa of Nathaniel, Mason, Nicholas, Maxwell “Max” and Krystal. He was the dear brother of Bruce Sweeney and his wife Maureen, Judy Sweeney and the late Gerry and Timmy Sweeney. He was the best friend of Paul Dee and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be celebrated in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Friday, June 3rd at 6:30 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 3 to 7 PM. Interment will be private.
