Obituary

Gertrude Rose Dobday (née Tramonti and affectionately called Trudy) passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022 at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, Massachusetts where she had resided for two days. She was born to the late Rose Conaty and Edward Tramonti in Providence, Rhode Island on December 24, 1926 and lived 95 full years.

Trudy was a resident of Wellesley, Massachusetts for 65 years. She graduated Saint Xavier’s Academy High School in Providence, Rhode Island and received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and was an active alumni for the rest of her life.

While at Seton Hill College she met her future husband, the late Peter J. Dobday. They were married in 1950 and had adventures in West Virginia and Cape Elizabeth, Maine before settling in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1957. After raising her two sons, she began a career as a dedicated and respected Human Resources Manager at Honeywell for over two decades at both the Wellesley and Waltham locations.

Trudy is survived by her sons Mark Dobday and his wife Sandra of Polson, Montana and Brian Dobday of Wellesley, Massachusetts and his partner Brandon Milling. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kate Dobday of Brooklyn, New York, Andy Dobday of Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, and Tim Dobday of Brooklyn, New York.

Trudy loved traveling around the country with Pete and enjoyed her time at their cottage in Cotuit on Cape Cod. She was a parishioner at St. Pauls in Wellesley for over 65 years. Trudy proudly served on the Wellesley Hills Women’s Club, as a member and as President for some years. She also volunteered at the Hunnewell School Library, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother. After retiring from Honeywell she volunteered as a patient liaison at the Newton Wellesley Hospital and at the Wellesley Historical Society Toll House. Trudy enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up, playing bridge, her book clubs, and enjoyed her many friends.


A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley on Tuesday, May 24 from 9:30-10:30am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley.
