Effrem “Ray” Glover (also known as “Mice”), age 61, of Boston, MA died on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at South Shore Hospital. Ray was born in Birmingham, Alabama, a son of the late George Jordan and Nancy Glover and moved to Boston when he was four. Following his graduation from Dearborn High School, Ray served in the US Army reserves.
Ray was a musician by trade, a member of local bands and a passionate freelance bass guitar player. He also held positions as a chef and construction worker.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, eating soul food, attending social gatherings and listening to music, especially Charlie Wilson, Bootsy Collins, Prince and Stevie Wonder.
“Mice” was a very resilient and resourceful person who was open to working with his social service team and problem solving for solutions. He was a good friend and tried to advocate for others who were less vocal than he was. He encouraged a burgeoning relationship with his granddaughter, who lovingly referred to him as Grandpa Glover.
Ray will be remembered as a loving, caring and beautiful man who was affectionate, smart and adaptable. He was also very knowledgeable and current with world and local news.
Ray was the father of Bena Berry-Jackson and her husband Samuel Jackson of Brockton, MA and Laraye Glover of Providence, RI. He leaves one granddaughter Blyss-Marie Jackson and his siblings Sherry Glover of Springfield, MA; Russell Glover of Roxbury, MA; Charles Boykin of Catherine, AL; Bruce Glover of Boston, MA; Peaches and husband Johnathan Bailey of Champagne, IL, and Arvetta “Mona” Boykins of Dorchester, MA.
Ray was predeceased by his longtime partner Mary Ann Silva. He was loved by a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (rte.123) Brockton, on Saturday May 14, 2022 from 11am-noon followed by a service in the funeral home.
