Obituary

Richard “Dick” Savage (96) of Needham, beloved husband of the late Margaret (Jennings) Savage, formerly of Humarock, and West Roxbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at home in Needham. He is survived by five children: Joseph Savage and his wife Barbara of Goffstown, NH, Martha Winston and her husband Stephen of Walpole, Richard Jr. and his wife Kristin of Needham, David and his wife Regina of Holliston, and Meg McGinn of Natick; thirteen grandchildren, James Savage, Caitrina Savage, Richard III, Christopher Savage, Nicholas Savage, Andrew Savage, Owen Savage, Keara Savage, Mikaela Savage, Liam Savage, Ethan Savage, Sam McGinn, and Peter McGinn; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard is a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy, having served in the Pacific in the closing months of the war. Like his four brothers, he is a graduate of Boston College. (AB 1949, MBA 1963).

Richard worked for many years in finance at Stow Woodward, the Raytheon Corporation, and Polaroid. After retiring in the late 1980s, he discovered a new calling as a truly beloved bus driver for children with special needs.

A devoted husband of 67 years and dedicated father of five, Richard valued family, education, and most enjoyed spending time with his family in so many ways: Humarock barbeques and “progressive dinners”, trips to Ireland, camping with the Boy Scouts, square dancing with Peg and their “St. Bart’s” friends, and later babysitting his many grandchildren. Richard was also known as a very active member of Saint Bartholomew’s Church, and Guild, for over 60 years.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, NEEDHAM, on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Needham.
