Obituary

Robert Cadwell Sechrest, of Wellesley, passed away peacefully on December 2nd after a brief illness. He was 91.

Born on September 22, 1930, to Edward D. and Helen C. Sechrest, Bob was a lifelong resident of his beloved Wellesley, Massachusetts. He was an active member in town affairs, serving his community in many ways, including on the Permanent Building Committee and the Planning Board. He was a current Town Meeting member, and had been for over 40 years. Also an active member of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, he helped them with various construction projects over the years. Bob enjoyed attending Wellesley Club and Kiwanis meetings.

Bob was a proud member of the Noble and Greenough class of 1948. He attended both Haverford College and Worcester Polytech, before serving in the Army in Japan during the Korean War.
Bob’s passions included barns, maps, maple syrup, and all things New England. He particularly loved spending time over the years with family at his parents’ farm in New Boston, NH, his in-laws house on Lake Sunapee, NH, and at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT. But having everyone gathered at home in the living room made him most happy of all. We were blessed to be able to do this on Thanksgiving.

The majority of Bob’s working life was spent in construction management and consulting, as well as home inspection.

Bob is survived by his cherished wife of 59 years, Bettina (Cleveland) Sechrest, of Wellesley; his three daughters, Anne B. Dowell of Acton, MA, Holly C. Sechrest, of Wellesley, and Susan S. Sandberg and her husband Peter of Ayer, MA. He had two grandsons, Griffin and Tristan Dowell of Acton, MA. He is also survived by three adored cousins and their families.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boston Children’s Hospital at bostonchildrens.org/giveinmemory or mail checks to Boston Children's Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215-5301, or donate to the charity of your choice.

Burial will be private, with a memorial service to follow at a later date.
