Alan M. “Jake” Leary passed away peacefully on November 9th. The second child of eight children born to the late James A. and Adeline G. (Allen) Leary. Born and raised in Canton he graduated from canton High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Border Legionnaire in Central Germany. He worked for many years as a self-employed painter. Alan took great pride in his years of public service with the Town of Canton, which included terms on the Personel Board, School Committee, Board of health, Zoning Board of Appeals, Charter Commission, Council on Aging and paul Revere Heritage Open Space Committee. He also joyfully served as a coach and Board of Director to Canton Little League and Canton Pop Warner Football. He also coached Canton Youth Hockey and Girls Recreation Softball.
Beloved husband for 57 years of the late Marie C. (Henriksen). Father of Laurie Manjikian and her husband Raffi of Belmont, A. Michael Leary of Canton and Diane Leary of Mansfield. Proud “Bucka” of Haley and John M. Bougas, Sara, Raffi, Christian and Steffen Manjikian. Brother of Susan Sullivan and Judith Kincade of Canton, Brian Leary of FL and the late James F., David P. & Patricia A. Leary and Marcia Ronayne. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday from 1-4 pm. Funeral mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton (formerly St. John the Evangelist Church) Monday morning at 10:00. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
