Eleanor (“Ellie”) Ann Levensky Gallagher, of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2021 at the age of 81. She and her twin, Elaine, were born on May 20, 1940 at Mt. Jackson, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Union High School in 1958, got married and left New Castle, PA for California, where she resided for 63 years. In 1962, Eleanor was blessed to expand her family with the adoption of twin sons, David and Danny (deceased) and 5 years later a daughter, Amy.
In 1982, Ellie met Gilbert Cartwright and spent 16 wonderful years as his companion and business partner running Sleep World together. Sadly, Gil passed away in 1998. When Sleep World closed following Gil’s death, she went to work for Aspen Helicopters in Oxnard, California, as a bookkeeper, until she retired. She loved her job at Aspen, where she had wonderful co-workers and met many interesting people and made life-long friends. Later she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Powell, and his lovely daughter, Wilma Powell. Plans were laid for them to be married, but unfortunate circumstances lead to his passing before that dream could come true. Following Bill’s death, Ellie moved his daughter Wilma, who had special needs, into her home and took care of her with great love and attention until Wilma passed away in 2019.
Ellie was a devoted mother and endearing friend to many. She was a proud member of the Ventura Mother of Twins Club, where she met some of her closest and dearest friends. She blessed so many people in her path with her sparkling eyes and infectious laughter and wit. She loved searching for bargains in thrift stores and sending gifts to family and friends to let them know how important they were to her. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading health books and keeping up with her family through Facebook. She enjoyed spending time at The Ventura Elk’s Club, where she was a member, for bingo nights and socializing with her many friends there. In addition to the love she held for her children, family and friends, was her deep love for her three little dogs, Bob, Paris and Little Boy. Her sweet Little Boy passed away 3 weeks ago at the age of 21.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Gallagher, son David Gallagher, granddaughter Jessica Gallagher and sisters: Joanne Krestel and Lorna Hall, New Castle, PA, Barbara Hahn, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Elaine Levey, Avon Park, Florida and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Wanda and Emil Levensky of New Castle, brothers, Edward Levensky, West Long Branch, New Jersey, and Carole and Carey “Buzz” Levensky, Castle, PA, and her son Danny Gallagher (deceased), Ventura, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at The Ventura Elk’s Club on a date to be announced soon.
